Kay and Hayden come for a visit!

On the first of May, Tom and I had very special visitors. Honestly, our excitement couldn't have been more if it had been Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip!

I met Kay, whose blog you may visit here, on the internet 20 years ago. In 1998 our family visited Texas and met Kay in person, at a bookstore of course.

This year she and her husband were coming east for a mystery conference for her, and a work conference for him. His was in Boston which is only three hours away. Tom and I were going to go down and see them but they decided to come to Windy Poplars Farm! They stayed in a local B&B. We went out to supper at the local diner, and then the next morning they came to the house and spent some time. Tuesdays we take care of Hazel Nina so they all got to meet. Sadly, sadly they could only spend the one night, but how wonderful our visit was. We are already talking about another trip to Texas. They are two of the.nicest.people.ever. We felt so comfortable with them, as if they were family or old friends as, indeed, Kay and I are. We've talked via yahoo groups and then email groups, and blogging, and now texting about most everything, and she probably knows my heart and soul better than many people I know.

Here are some pictures from our get-together.

    1. We can pop over to 'yours' (as they say in all the British shows I watch)! I still have hopes of going back to England.

  2. Hello Nan, I just love that last photo and all the others too. It sounds as though you all had a fun time together. I’ve made some wonderful friends online, and you are right in what you say, they too know my heart and soul better than most ‘real’ friends. There is something very liberating about putting thoughts down in words.

    1. It has just opened up a world of people with similar interests. I like the slowness of writing.

  3. Nan, I love the pictures! I had no idea you got those of us individually with sweet Hazel Nina! We had the best time and I agree that it took all of about a second and a half for us to feel comfortable - like family. Which I think we are. My post about this will be up on Monday.

  10. Add me to the count of envious blog friends. How I'd love to visit Hill Farm ! I had fun cruising over to Kay's blog, one I hadn't visited before. I have such admiration (and gratitude) for those of you who blog about books ... I tried years ago to include a few bookish posts, but gave up -- writing interesting reviews is HARD work! I found I didn't have time to both read and write about what I had read. Reading, of course, won. But I don't thank you often enough for your talent and recommendations (books and video stuff too!)....
Loved seeing Hazel Nina with the company.... she obviously enjoyed meeting new friends and helping you play host to them.

    1. As you must have noticed, I don't write about my books like I used to. I don't have the solid time I did BG and BR (before grandchildren and before retirement - Tom's) to get my thoughts together and actually write them down. I was telling someone that I walk around with blog posts in my head that I never actually do. ;<)
Thanks, as always, for your kind, encouraging words.

  11. So wonderful that you could get together...Some of my best friends are from blogs, or the internet...My friends from the D.E. Stevenson discussion group founded in 1997 are so close, and we've gotten together quite a number of times.
